Our practicing attorney at the Law Office of Kim Anderson Ray, LLC has certainly come into her own. Mrs. Ray was born in Charleston, South Carolina and matriculated in the public school system of Aiken County.  She always demonstrated a keen interest in politics and law.  In 1980, at the age of sixteen, she went to Washington, DC where she served as a U.S. Senate page for the late Hon. J. Strom Thurmond (R-SC).  During that time she attended the Capitol Page School housed in the Library of Congress.  She later graduated from South Aiken High School in 1982.  She went on to attend the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1986.  She was named a University of Georgia Foundation scholarship recipient and earned a Juris Doctor degree in 1989 from the University of Georgia School of Law.

Mrs. Ray was admitted to the South Carolina Bar on September 23, 1991 and entered private practice with her father in the law firm of Anderson & Associates of Aiken, PA.  In 2008, she went on to found the Law Office of Kim Anderson Ray, LLC.  Her practice is limited to domestic litigation and all other matters within the jurisdiction of the Family Court.  She is the first African-American woman to enter the practice of law in Aiken County.

Mrs. Ray is also a Board Certified Family Court Mediator.  She was trained in Boston, MA by the Boston Law Collaborative, LLC in conjunction with the American Bar Association Section of Family Law.  She has been certified by the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification since 2009.

From 1999 until 2004, she took a sabbatical from practicing law in order to travel with her husband, who was serving in the United States Marine Corps.  In support of her husband’s mission to train and command Marines, she served in many auxiliary capacities during that time.

Mrs. Ray taught courses in Business Law and Juvenile Justice while an adjunct faculty member at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

She was a member of the Officers’ Wives Clubs at Marine Corps Bases Camp Pendleton, CA and Camp Lejeune, NC and the Naval Officers’ Spouses Club at Newport, RI.  These organizations pride themselves on raising money for scholarships for military spouses and charitable giving.  While at Camp Lejeune, she served on the Scholarship Committee and as Chairperson for the Second Marine Division Wives on the Camp Lejeune OWC Executive Board.

When her husband’s battalion deployed to Europe for training and later to Southwest Asia for Operation Enduring Freedom and later Operation Iraqi Freedom, she served as the Advisor for the 2dLAR Battalion Key Volunteer Network and served as a senior advisor on the Key Coordinator Family Readiness Group.  She worked with the rear elements of the Second Marine Division to assist family members in locating resources and assisting with all aspects of deployment issues, including financial assistance, childcare and respite issues, medical and mental health care, domestic abuse, child abuse, and casualty notification.  Serving in these positions made her responsible for providing resource assistance for literally thousands of spouses and family members.

She is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Cumbee Center for Victims of Domestic Abuse, the Helping Hands Home for Children, and the Aiken Department of Public Safety Citizen’s Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Ray married Col. Eddie S. Ray, USMC (retired) in 1999, and the couple parents a blended family of six children.
